Bahrain is a small Island country situated near the western shores of the Persian Gulf. It has been one of the Gulf’s most important crossroads for over 4000 years. The country is a collection of 33 Islands located off the coast of Saudi Arabia. The country offers a fascinating blend of eastern and western cultures as high rise buildings vie for space with more traditional dwellings, ancient traditions and historical sites mixed with modern developments and cosmopolitan living.

Amwaj Islands is a wonderful new waterside development encompassing 30 million sq/ft of the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is a group of man made Islands located in the Arabian Gulf to the northeast of Bahrain near the coast of Muharraq Island. Amwaj Islands are a pioneering project in Bahrain; the first to offer 100% freehold land ownership to expatriates living in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It also increases the supply of waterfront property, which is in low supply in this small island nation. The Islands contain residential, commercial (highrise) and retail buildings, as well as a 240 m diameter circular marina with over 140 berths. Other facilities include a school, a university, a hospital, a fuel station, theme parks (all still under construction) and a lagoonside dining and café precinct.

During the summer months, stretching from April to October, afternoon average around 37-40°C. In winter, temperature range between 10°C and 20°C.

Bahrain Fort
Thought to be once the centre of power for the ancient Dilmun civilisation, Qal’at al Bahrain (Bahrain Fort) has UNESCO World Heritage status. Originally an Islamic fort, dating back to the 16th Century AD, this was more recently occupied by the Portuguese. The Bahrain Fort Museum showcases archaeological discoveries from different civilisations that successively occupied the site. Arad Fort is more recent, but is nonetheless one of our country’s most important castles. Riffa Fort, built in 1812, is the most recent of the forts.

Bahrain International Circuit
The circuit brings in thousands of visitors every year for the Formula One Gulf Air Grand Prix, the race is an annual fixture in Bahrain until at least the year 2016. Even if you are not a motor-race fan, you will be caught up in the thrill and excitement of the planet’s biggest race event, Formula One, during its Bahrain season. But when the Formula 1 Grand Prix isn’t taking centre stage at the Bahrain International Circuit, you can take the wheel yourself on its state-of-the-art karting track or enjoy a thrilling ride in the passenger seat of a Hummer on its Extreme 4x4 course. A visit to the Circuit is a must as you may also get to test drive some of the race cars on the F1 track.

Hawar Island

Traditional Houses of Muharraq
At the beginning of the last century, Muharraq was the capital of Bahrain and centre of major public and governmental projects. In the past decade, the district’s traditional houses have been restored, each dedicated to an aspect of our country’s cultural heritage. At the heart of them is the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research, established as a forum for dialogue between people in philosophy, literature, poetry, culture and the arts. Nearby are other houses such as the Seyadi House that show our cultural heritage.

Barbar Temple
This is an archaeological site located in the village of Barbar. Three temples have been discovered there, the oldest dating back to 3000BC. The temples were thought to have been constructed to worship gods, as it contains two altars and a natural water spring. During its excavation tools, weapons, pottery, and many small pieces of gold were discovered.

Boat Trips to Bu Maher Fort
Bu Maher Fort visitor center is the starting point to discover more about the Pearling Road, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The center contains a three-dimensional display to learn about the Pearling Road’s history and the houses which form it, from the early beginnings to the main pearling traders. Bu Maher Fort, which research shows that it was built in 1840, is steeped in seafaring and pearling history, and forms the first stop of the historical pearling trail having served once as the main fishing harbor and gateway from the sea. The Bu Maher Fort visitor center can be accessed via the sea aboard boats which depart from the Bahrain National Museum harbor.
